About Intrinsically Safe Store

A US-based, independent authority for hazardous-area equipment — here to help you find the right certified product, not just sell you one.

Who We Are

AN INDEPENDENT AUTHORITY FOR HAZARDOUS AREAS.

Intrinsically Safe Store is an independent, US-based authority for hazardous-area, intrinsically safe, and explosion-proof equipment. We're not a manufacturer promoting our own line, and we're not a generic catalog reselling whatever moves. We sit on your side of the table — bringing every certified option together in one place so you can find what actually fits your area classification.

What We Do.

The hazardous-area equipment market is fragmented and genuinely difficult to navigate. Ratings are confusing. Manufacturers are slow. Catalogs barely know what they're selling. If you've ever tried to confirm whether a device is right for your Zone or Division and come away more uncertain than when you started, you already know the problem.

That's the gap we exist to close. You're the one responsible for keeping your crew safe and your operation running — that makes you the one who needs a guide who actually knows the terrain. Our job is to take the stress out of finding the right certified product, getting it to your site on time, and standing behind it. You stay the expert on your operation. We handle the part that shouldn't be this hard.

The People Behind ISS.

When you're sourcing for a classified area, you're trusting a supplier with your compliance, your schedule, and your crew's safety. Here's who stands behind that.

James McDonough

CEO & Founder
Founded2019
Based inHouston, Texas

James McDonough brings over 20 years of leadership across oil and gas, mining, manufacturing, and technology. Educated at MIT and the Wharton School, and a LEAN Six Sigma Black Belt, he built ISS on a foundation of rigorous process and technical accountability.

He started ISS because the hazardous-area equipment market was — and largely still is — fragmented, hard to navigate, and underserved by suppliers who don't actually know the environment their customers work in. The company exists to fix that.

Technical Sales

Our sales team doesn't push products — they ask the right questions first. Zone or Division? Gas group? Temperature class? They confirm your classification before making a recommendation, so you don't end up with the wrong device in a classified area.

Manufacturer Relationships

We work directly with qualified global manufacturers — ECOM, BARTEC, Nightstick, Aegex, XCIEL and others — not distributors of distributors. Every product is authentic, fully certified, and traceable to its origin.

Customer Support

If your order hits a problem after it ships, you reach a person — not an automated system. Our support team handles technical discrepancies, shipping issues, and returns with a direct response, and when an order hits a problem, we respond the same day.

Certifications We Stand Behind.

In a hazardous area, certification isn't a label — it's the line between a safe operation and a failed inspection. Every product we ship carries verified ATEX, IECEx, UL, or CSA certification, sourced directly from manufacturers we've qualified. We don't deal in grey-market channels, so the documentation that reaches your site matches exactly what your compliance audit expects.

If you need to confirm a specific rating for your Zone or Division before you buy, our team will verify it with you first. We'd rather get it right than have you discover a mismatch on inspection day.

Certifications cover Zone 0, Zone 1, Zone 2 (ATEX/IECEx) and Class I Division 1, Class I Division 2 (NEC). All documentation verified before shipment.

Brands We Partner With Directly.

We source directly from qualified manufacturers — no distributors, no middlemen. That's how we keep every product authentic, traceable, and backed by its original certification. Our partners include XCIEL, BARTEC, ECOM, Honeywell, Nightstick, Getac, Federal Signal, and more than a dozen other certified hazardous-area brands. When a manufacturer builds equipment for explosive atmospheres, we want it coming to you straight from the source, certification intact.

What We Value — and What It Means for You.

Values are easy to put on a wall. Here's what ours actually translate to when you place an order.

Your Success Comes First.

We win when your project does. That's not a slogan — it's the order of priority. The right product, fit for your classification, is worth more to us than the highest-margin option on the shelf.

We Execute.

The best advice in the world is worthless if the equipment doesn't show up. We're clear on what you need, why, and when — and we follow through. Execution is the part that actually keeps your operation on schedule.

We Keep Raising the Bar.

Certifications change. Products change. Standards change. We stay current with the hazardous-area landscape so the equipment we recommend is right for today's requirements, not last year's.

We Own the Outcome.

When you deal with ISS, a real person takes personal responsibility for your order — start to finish. If something needs fixing, we speak up and follow through. No passing you to a queue.

Industries We Serve.

We understand the purchasing protocols, compliance requirements, and zero-error tolerance of large industrial operations. Here's where we work.

Oil & Gas

From upstream rigs to downstream refineries, we supply Zone 1 and Class I Division certified equipment built for the realities of your site — turnaround windows, multi-site procurement, and HSE inspections that leave no room for the wrong rating.

Petrochemical

Volatile processing environments demand full traceability. Every device we ship to a petrochemical facility carries an unbroken chain of custody from the manufacturer to your receiving dock — documented, not assumed.

Mining

Underground and surface extraction are unforgiving environments. We stock rugged, intrinsically safe communications and monitoring equipment rated for the conditions your crews actually work in — not just certified on paper.

Pharmaceutical & Chemical Processing

Combustible dust zones and cleanroom environments carry strict — and often misunderstood — hazardous-area requirements. We help EHS and procurement teams confirm the right rating before the order goes in, so inspection day isn't a problem.

Talk to an authority before you order.

Tell us your area classification and what you're trying to accomplish. We'll point you to the right certified equipment — and stand behind it.
