IS-T-SS Intrinsically Safe Stainless Steel Tank Alarm – 6″ to 71″ Depths, Class I Div 1

The IS-T-SS Series Intrinsically Safe Tank Alarm is a rugged battery-powered level alarm engineered for hazardous-area tank monitoring. Designed for use in Class I Division 1 and Zone 0 locations, it combines a bright flashing LED with a loud 101 dB warbling buzzer to alert operators to high or low tank-level conditions in rough, wet, and corrosive environments.

Each unit includes an intrinsically safe lithium battery pack with years of operational life, a low-battery alert, and a silencing/test button for routine checks. With multiple depth options from 6″ up to 71″, the IS-T-SS Series is ideal for fixed tanks, sumps, and vessels where safe, reliable point-level monitoring is critical.

Key Features:

✅ Intrinsically Safe design for Class I, Div. 1 and Zone 0 hazardous locations
Battery powered – no external power or wiring required for the basic alarm
101 dB warbling buzzer plus bright LED for clear, unmistakable alarms
Rugged 316 stainless steel pipe, float, and float guard for corrosive environments
Multiple depth options from 6″ to 71″ to match tank geometry and setpoint
Silence/test button for operator acknowledgement and functional testing
✅ Low-battery alert function separate from level alarm condition
✅ Optional relay output for connection to PLCs or safe-area annunciation via I.S. barrier

Chemical & Mechanical Design:

Standard IS-T-SS Series construction uses 316 stainless steel for the pipe, float switch, and float guard, providing excellent corrosion resistance for many industrial liquids. Retaining rings on the float are made of high-strength 15-7 stainless steel. For applications requiring plastics, polypropylene or PTFE float options may be available on request; consult the chemical resistance chart and manufacturer documentation for details.

Applications of IS-T-SS Intrinsically Safe Tank Alarms:

🔹 Level monitoring in hazardous-area storage tanks and day tanks
🔹 High-level or low-level protection on sumps and pits in Class I Div. 1 areas
🔹 Pump protection – stop pumps at low level to prevent dry running
🔹 Overfill prevention in process and utility tanks
🔹 Chemical, oil & gas, wastewater, and industrial plant operations

FAQs:

What is the difference between the depth options (6″ to 71″)?
Each model number (IS-T-SS-06, -12, -18, -24, -36, -48, -60, -71) corresponds to a specific probe length to position the float at the desired alarm point. Select the model that places the float at the correct high or low level inside your tank.

Is the alarm suitable for Class I Division 1 hazardous locations?
Yes. The IS-T-SS Series is designed and certified for use in hazardous locations when installed and connected according to the manufacturer’s documentation and applicable intrinsic safety practices.

Can I connect the IS-T-SS to a PLC or remote alarm panel?
Yes. With the optional relay output module and a suitable intrinsic safety barrier, the alarm can be interfaced with PLCs, remote annunciators, or control systems in a safe area.

How long does the battery last?
Lithium batteries offer a long shelf life and extended operational life. A dedicated low-battery alert distinguishes battery status from level alarm conditions, and the battery is user-replaceable following hazardous-area maintenance procedures.
