Intrinsically Safe RPS-429AA Sensor: Migatron’s third generation of intrinsically safe ultrasonic sensors are certified for use in Hazardous (Classified) Locations and Explosive Atmospheres. These sensors are among the first to receive an ANZEx certificate for use in Australia and New Zealand. They are also certified in Europe, the United States, and Canada. You can safely use these sensors in hazardous gas or dust environments classified as Zone 0, 1, 2, 20, 21, or 22 for ANZEx/ATEX/IECEx, and Class I, II, or III for C-UL-US, when paired with approved intrinsic safety barriers. The sensors are fully sealed, boasting an IP66/IP67 rating.

You don’t need calibration or special training to use these sensors. Simply apply power, and the output voltage will precisely indicate the distance to the target. For example, the RPS-429AA-40P-IS2 measures distances from 4 to 40 inches and outputs 0.444 mA for every inch between the sensor and the target. When the target is four inches away, the current output is 4.0 mA, and at forty inches, it’s 20.0 mA. This linear relationship makes it easy to convert current output into distance.

Similarly, the RPS-429AV-40P-IS2 measures distances from 4 to 40 inches but uses voltage output instead of current. It produces 0.111 volts per inch, so when the target is four inches away, the output is 1.0 volts, and when it’s forty inches away, the output reaches 5.0 volts.

The RPS-429A-IS is designed to integrate with modern PLC and computer analog input cards. The programmed numerical values in the PLC or computer determine the sensor’s zero and span settings.

Each sensor includes short-circuit protection for safety and built-in temperature compensation to ensure accurate readings across the entire operating temperature range.

The IS2 and IS3 designations indicate certification regions: IS2 is certified for global use, while IS3 is certified for the U.S. and Canada.
